These stamps are issued to commemorate 100th anniversary of foundation of RIKEN. RIKEN, the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, was founded in 1917 to promote the growth of Japanese industry and has conducted basic and applied research covering a diverse range of fields as the only research institute of natural science in Japan.
