(Small Notes for the Issue)

The United Nations adopted the Principles for Older Persons at its 46th General Assembly in 1991. The UN Principles address the independence, participation, care, self-fulfillment and dignity of older persons. The General Assembly has designated 1999 the International Year of Older Persons in the following year. The stamp depicts an elephant and a stork symbolizing following generation by the latter and longevity by the former.
