(Small Notes for the Issue)
''Shinano-no kuni'' was written by Asai Retsu (1849-1938) in 1899 and composed
by Kitamura Sueharu (1872-1931) in 1900. It was first sung at Nagano Normal
School and spread all over the country. It officially became the Prefecture
song in 1968. The year 2000 marks the centenary of the song. The stamps
depict the representative scenery of Nagano. ''Shinano-no kuni'' is the
old name for the prefecture.
