[Note on the Stamps]
The stamps are issued to commemorate the establishment of "Mountain Day" on August 11 as a new national holiday. "Mountain Day" is intended "to give opportunities to get close to mountains and to appreciate the benefits of mountains". The stamps depict the best-known mountains in Japan as well as plants and animals lived in the mountains.
