During the Year of France in Japan, a year from April 1998, both the government of Francfe and private organizations make eforts to introduce the cultures and scientific technologies of France synthetically. France isued a postage stamp commemorating "1997 Annee du Japon" on 6 October 1997. This is the first time for a Japanese postage stamp to depict an European oil painting in possession of France.
