(Small Notes for the Issue)

The stamp depicts a golfer and rindou (gentians), the flower of Kumamoto prefecture, where the summer and autumn National Athletic Meets were held in 1999. From this year, golf has been formally included in the meets. It is the first one in these eleven years for the National Athletic Meets to include a formal game after the adoption of bowling in 1988.
