The Shikina-en Garden was built around the end of the 18th century as a villa of the Ryukyu dynasty. It was appointed as one of National Scenic Spots in 1941 but destroyed by the World War II. Restoration of the garden started in 1975 and was completed in 1996. The garden was appointed again as one of National Scenic Spots in 1976.
